I recently had the pleasure of attending a show at this theater for the first time, and it exceeded all my expectations. The venue is well-designed with no bad seats in the house, ensuring a great view from anywhere. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, adding to the overall positive experience. Everything ran smoothly, from the ticketing process to the concessions. And the show itself was nothing short of amazing – a truly memorable performance that I won’t forget. I can’t wait to come back for another show at this fantastic theater.

The Mark Taper Forum is located in Downtown LA and is part of the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion which houses other theaters. The entire Pavilion area is lovely. We used to always dine first at a Pavilion eatery, but sadly, the food is no longer good. And this includes all of the restaurants. They really need to work on that as they are losing more money by the day.
The Mark Taper is our main theater to go to at the Pavilion. The rest re-play things too often and the service has gone downhill.
The Mark Taper also has staff issues. They seem confused. We went to see American Idiot which is not the New York version, but one put together by the Taper and a community theater for the deaf. The play was signing, singing and the words were even at the top of its small stage. There were posters etc. concerning the community of the disabled. Sadly, I guess they don’t mean it or read their own signage.
I have a very hard time walking and standing, but I do it. I am just slow and can fall if I have to stand too long. We had to wait for 30 minutes in a line to get a soda. There were no railing to hold onto and when we finally got to a spot in the line where I could lean on the wall, I was yelled at by a staff member who told be «don’t do that.» I explained I could fall and he said again, «you can’t do that.»
Not one of the bathrooms are convenient for the disabled. The staff does nothing to help. This must change.
So, you may wonder why I gave them a 5 star rating. It is simple. They have new and different shows that are always great. They don’t re-play the same thing every year. The plays are new, fresh and always entertaining. American Idiot was amazing. This is what the Taper does well and why I tolerate the abuse.
The seating is somewhat comfortable and there is not a bad seat in the house. It is small. The prices are fair.
Parking is across the street and costs less now than valet (it used to be the same). The valet is also nice and right in front of the Taper
The stage is small and they use the space well. I have never seen a bad play or musical there. I will continue to go to the Taper, but I so feel bad for people who are more disabled then me.
Elizabeth Lascheid

The Mark Taper Forum is a cool theatre that seats 700 plus people with great sound comfortable seats and good sight lines at the Los Angeles Music Center. It’s renowned for showcasing groundbreaking plays and has been pivotal in launching many notable productions and careers. I recently attended This Bright Wilderness in celebration of historic black theatre and was thoroughly impressed by the powerful performances and emotional depth of the play. The invitation was unexpected but I would have no problem accepting the offer again if ever given the opportunity to experience such a brilliant production. The evening was truly unforgettable, highlighting the rich cultural heritage and storytelling prowess of the performers. I’d highly recommend this theatre if you’re looking for something special to experience in Los Angeles.

Easily one of the best things I’ve done since moving to LA! As someone who has always loved to dance, but never really knew how, joining movers and shakers helped give me the skills to express myself dancing. Danny is incredibly experienced and makes every class fun and enjoyable. Each class is planned well to review previous moves and with enough time and repetition to learn new ones. I can’t believe the amount of skill I was able to gain in just 10 short weeks. Now I spend every week social dancing on top of weekly classes and couldn’t be more happy & thankful to have dance become a bigger part of my life!

I recently had the pleasure of taking Salsa 101 and 102B at Movers and Shakers Salsa Studio, and it was an incredible experience!
In Salsa 101, our instructor Danny was fantastic. He made learning the basic steps enjoyable and accessible for everyone in the class. His enthusiasm for salsa dancing is contagious, and he has a great way of breaking down the moves to ensure that everyone feels comfortable and confident. Danny’s supportive approach created a fun atmosphere that made me excited to dance.
When I progressed to Salsa 102B, I had the pleasure of learning from Ariella. She brought a fresh energy to the class and introduced more intricate steps and partner work with such clarity. Ariella’s teaching style is both encouraging and challenging, pushing us to embrace our creativity and add personal flair to our dancing. She was always available for tips and feedback, which really helped me refine my skills.
Overall, my experience at Movers and Shakers was outstanding, thanks to both Danny and Ariella. They both foster a warm and welcoming environment that makes learning salsa a joy. I left each class feeling energized and eager to dance more. Whether you’re a beginner or looking to elevate your skills, I highly recommend this studio and taking classes with these amazing instructors!

Learn salsa with expert guidance and pure fun! From the very first lesson, I was blown away by how detailed and thorough each class has been. Instructor Danny emphasizes the importance of building a strong foundation, which he calls «the building blocks of success,» and he couldn’t be more right. Thanks to his guidance, my confidence on the dance floor has improved dramatically. I drive all the way from Sherman Oaks, CA, and it’s worth every mile. I highly recommend anyone looking to learn salsa or bachata to join MAS—you won’t regret it!

** Long sappy review incoming **
In August 2022, my partner Nick and I uprooted our lives on the East Coast to move to Los Angeles for a job opportunity. Struggling to make friends and adjust to the LA lifestyle, we decided to join a local dance studio as a fun couples’ hobby and to form new friendships. We chose Movers and Shakers based on the overwhelmingly positive reviews praising the instructors, the quality of the classes, and the vibrant community of dancers it attracted.
Having danced Bachata on and off since 2018, I had experienced my share of quality dance studios and held relatively high standards. However, after enrolling in our first Bachata 101 class with instructor Ariela through Movers and Shakers, it quickly became clear that this studio was different. The warmth, energy, and genuine care that Ariela brought to each class made us feel welcome from day one, and we immediately knew we had found something special.
Standing here two years later, I can confidently say that joining Movers and Shakers was the best decision we ever made and has far exceeded our expectations. Not only have we mastered the fundamentals and grown into confident dancers, but we’ve also found a true sense of community and made lifelong friends.
What truly sets Movers and Shakers apart from all the other studios is that our academy director, Danny Kalman, doesn’t treat his studio as just a business — it’s a real family. Danny pours his absolute heart and soul into every class. I genuinely appreciate how Danny and the MaS instructors go above and beyond to ensure that every nuance of the dance is fully mastered. From perfecting the fundamentals and adding creative styling to honing dancing musicality, they delve into levels of detail that most studios barely scratch the surface on.
But beyond the lessons themselves, Danny and the team creates a welcoming environment where everyone feels part of a close-knit dance community. While most other studios focus on cycling students through the curriculum as quickly as possible to generate maximum revenue, Danny makes it his mission to foster growth, camaraderie, and support among his students. He goes above and beyond by organizing frequent dance socials and weekly Friday practice sessions in the studio, providing us with safe and encouraging spaces to refine our skills. He also pays attention to small yet significant details that make all the difference, like posting recap videos on our class website and creating group chats to help us organize our own social or practice sessions. To top it off, Danny regularly hosts massive student parties that attract hundreds of past and current MaS students — truly some of the funnest parties I’ve ever attended!
Having experimented with over five dance studios throughout my dance journey, I can confidently say that Danny and Movers and Shakers are completely unparalleled in terms of the student experience and the quality of the instruction. Nick and I couldn’t be happier with our time here and are incredibly grateful to have found a place where we’re not only advancing as dancers but have also discovered a community where we truly belong.
It’s officially been over two years since Nick and I moved to LA, and I’m proud to say we’ve stuck with Movers and Shakers ever since. We’ve completed the entire Bachata series (101, 102a, 102b, 103a, 103b, 103c) and have even added Salsa to our repertoire, having finished Salsa 101 and 102, with our next goal possibly being to audition for the performance team!
While moving to LA was perhaps the hardest transition of my life, finding and joining the Movers and Shakers dance community was truly the best thing that has ever happened to us. I am eternally grateful to Danny, Ariela, and the rest of the MaS team for the gift of this beautiful community that I will cherish forever. My heart is so full ❤️

I decided to try out Dancer University after taking classes at another studio. The drop in classes are well worth it! I always feel like I’m being challenged and the instructors are great! What I love most is that the instructors will take turns with the students for feedback. Everyone is so nice and welcoming!

If you’ve ever wanted to dance—whether it’s Salsa, Sensual Bachata, or Tango—or if you’re looking for a fun way to meet new people, enjoy a unique date night, or start an exciting new hobby, Dancer University is the perfect place to begin. They offer a variety of options, including free intro classes, drop-in sessions, and multi-class series, so there’s something for everyone. Whether you’re taking classes with a partner or venturing solo like I did, Nicole Gil and the rest of the instructors create such a warm and welcoming environment that you’ll feel like part of the family right away.
When I first walked in, I didn’t know a single person, but I left with new friends and an incredible community to go dancing with. If dancing has always been on your bucket list, don’t hesitate—just show up like I did! And if you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me.

I had a great time taking the Zero to Hero Bachata class with Nicole and Alayn! They are great instructors and phenomenal dancers. I loved the way they broke down the technique and movement in each class and I like that they would dance with each student and give personal feedback. I highly recommend this studio for anyone who wants to improve their dancing. Nicole is an angel and Alayn makes a lot of funny jokes in class. I look forward to taking more classes with them.
Aimee Malgapo

Best Bachata sensual class that you can ever take in Los Angeles. All the classes are fun. Nicole is an amazing instructor. She is very friendly and she teaches us all the details about particular combos. Daily dance events that they organize is a big plus. Don’t think twice and join this community 🙂

The best! I love this dance school. Nicole Gil makes each class very comfortable and easy to understand.
Every time I have been to a class or social dancing event, I have always found the community very welcoming and inclusive.

I loved Heels dance class with Federica. I love a choreographer who is able to help students understand the technique and movement by explaining how to use control. I saw a difference in my technique after taking my 1st class with her. If you are trying to level up on heels technique I definitely recommend taking Federica’s class.

A visit to LA Dancefit is the easiest way to elevate your mood – guaranteed you will leave feeling better than when you arrived. Great instructors – the classes are challenging and fun. I like the evening classes when they turn the overhead lights down and the disco lights come up.

Whenever I visit LA, I try and take classes at LA Dancefit. In fact, I just celebrated a recent birthday in LA and took 4 classes this past weekend and loved them all. I took cardio dance 2x, a reggae ton choreo class and also a heels class. The vibe is casual and friendly and everyone just loves to dance. I especially loved Manu’s class for the awesome playlist and great and easy to follow moves- Dennis’ reggae ton combo was fun and Federica’s heels combo was great too especially if you like choreography classes.

Went to beach Zumba with Dennis, it rocked!
Silent headphones, no view better than the ocean! Everyone walking by was JEALOUS
Can’t wait for the next!

Liz Lira Dance Academy is an absolute gem for anyone looking to learn salsa and bachata dancing. From the moment I stepped into the studio, I was welcomed into a vibrant and supportive community of dancers. Learning these lively Latin dances was an absolute blast thanks to the incredibly talented instructors.
Liz Lira herself is a true master of her craft, teaching with a contagious passion and energy that inspires every student. George, Devon, and Zweli are also phenomenal teachers who bring their own unique styles and expertise to the classes. Each instructor creates an encouraging environment where you can learn at your own pace without feeling intimidated.
The group classes offer a great foundation, but I cannot recommend Zweli’s private lessons highly enough. His deep knowledge and meticulous instruction really took my dancing to the next level. Zweli has a way of breaking down even the most complex moves into easy-to-understand concepts. His eloquent teaching style made me appreciate the technical nuances I had been missing.
Beyond the excellent instruction, there’s an incredible sense of community at this dance academy. Friendships are forged on the dance floor as everyone supports and uplifts one another. The atmosphere is electric, filled with good vibes and plenty of laughter between dance moves.
Whether you’re a complete beginner or experienced dancer, Liz Lira Dance Academy offers classes for all levels in a fun, welcoming space. Do yourself a favor and immerse yourself in the rhythms of salsa and bachata here – you’ll be hooked!

This is a gem dance studio in Los Angeles. Taking their Salsa and Bachata class for 3 months and I have so much improvement on my social dance skills, physically and mentally. Liz is a truly excellent dance teacher and she is teaching us so many importance elements that most teachers will neglect. I took 9 classes a week they provide really nice classes package so please check it out you won’t regret❤️❤️❤️
Cici Chen

I had never really danced before, so I was super nervous. I got private lessons with Lisa and she was great- I learned a ton.
Joshua Privett

My fiancé and I attended our first salsa beginner class this eve at Liz Lira Studio with teacher Zweli. He was awesome! He hold a DEEP passion for the dance but also a TRUE ability to teach. He so quickly got me out of my head and into my body.
I have taught elementary school for ten years and understand the grace it takes to toggle between teaching skill and also teaching self acceptance and patience. Zweli is a master of this.
We decided to take the class because we’re getting married soon and salsa may not be our forever dance BUT we wanted to move our bodies and connect with dance apart and together and that certainly was accomplished.
Huge props to Zweli and the fellow classmates who embraced our newness! We’ll be back!

My husband and I hired Liz for wedding choreography this summer. We paid for 8 dance lessons upfront and we’re promised a dance routine. What we got instead was Liz week after week building the dance in real-time as she “felt her way” through the song. She never gave us a full choreography to practice. It was especially frustrating because we would have a week between seeing her and try to practice what she showed us which were generic dance moves mostly for Cumbia rather than a full dance. She got really upset in one of the classes when I tried to correct my partner’s steps (because she failed at this herself) and told me it was her job that I was taking and that I needed to trust the process. This was difficult to do because she would often forget where we left off in the last class and it always felt like it took half an hour just for her to get up to speed with where we were. She also dropped a bomb on us last minute that she was going on a 3 week vacation right before our wedding (unbeknownst to us when we paid her $1,400 in the beginning)!! She offered to cram classes in the week of our wedding to makeup for this We eventually dropped her and made up our own dance which was WAY better than what she was trying to have us do anyway. Liz tried to get us to write her raving Yelp reviews and I would have but sadly I had a negative experience and don’t want others to make the same mistake we did. Do not recommend for wedding choreography at all. And there was often a strong odor in the class that smelled like mildew which I hope she fixes.

Laura is one the most creative and talented dance teachers. On our very first dance lesson, she surprised us by creating an unforgettable dance routine for our wedding’s first dance on the spot while listening to the song for the first time. The dance was to the dramatic song “Writings on the Wall” by Sam Smith. She incorporated ballroom dance moves, beautiful lifts, and spins. Our wedding guests loved it! I would recommend Laura to any couple wanting to do private dance lessons for their first dance. It was one of the highlights of our wedding.

I went by the studio and the Culver city location was closed but the website shows the studio is open. I called the list number on the website and the gentlemen didn’t have any phone etiquette, unprofessional, and willingness to assist. I was disappointed but I’m glad I had this experience.

Love, Love, Love this place— the best escape from work and stress… especially the Casino (Salsa) Rueda!!! Come and join the fun every Saturday at 3:30pm– just for an hour, try it!! I’m sure you’ll love it!! But, truly, whatever class you take, I’m also sure you’d feel like you are in ‘another world’. 🙂 For me, being at By Your Side is … where my ‘other life’ begins. 🙂 Whatever level you are in dancing (or even no level at all), you will find this studio very welcoming. Their skilled instructors (ALL award-winning personalities in their own right), personalized approach, and vibrant nurturing yet relaxed culture make them a standout choice for anyone seeking to prepare for a special occasion, improve technique, or simply just have fun. Their teaching style truly fosters an environment where one can achieve their own personal dance aspirations, whatever they may be. They offer a wide range of classes from social to competitive levels, themed dance nights, and opportunities for performance. If only I could attend all of them, I would!!

Amy gave us fun lessons where we learned the waltz for our wedding. She provided exciting personal choreography for our song. We had a great time practicing and learning the steps. The studio is close by and has multiple rooms for various lessons. Can’t wait to try some group lessons and dance more!
Dan Fisher

I love this studio!! I’m in my mid-forties and I’ve never danced in my life. I was very nervous about starting a new class and thought I might be with students that had a dance background and I’d be in over my head. I started taking tap dancing there and I am loving it. The instructor is so encouraging and positive and very sweet. The other student are so friendly- we’re all at different levels and that doesn’t matter. There are adults of all ages in class, and I can keep up and I don’t feel out of place.
I absolutely love the experience I’m having there and I look forward to every class. I’m also getting a great workout while I’m having fun.

We had such an awesome time learning salsa from Danella for our wedding first dance and also have stayed on for general group classes because we are loving sharing this hobby as a couple! Danella is an incredible teacher, she commands the group lessons masterfully but also takes the time in individual lessons to coach, refine, and add styling. We are excited to continue coming back to Danella’s classes!
Gabriella Puente

I’ve taken salsa and bachata classes on and off over the years from many different instructors and Danella is hands down the best. She teaches you how to know and get into your body, hear the music, and actually DANCE! She is encouraging and motivating, helps you figure out and achieve your personal goals, and regularly hosts workshops and social events to help you level up.
Equally important is how Danella fosters a genuine sense of community and creates something really special that I haven’t found at other dance studios. This is most certainly due to the tone of friendship and respect that she sets, how much fun she makes class, and just the gem of a person that she is, which in turn attracts great students. I have made so many great friends at her studio and absolutely adore everyone in class. The past year as Danella’s student has felt like coming home to myself, and taking her classes has been one of the best decisions I’ve made.
Julia Curran

Danella is an amazing instructor and creates a space for learning and building community. She teaches you about how to dance with your body, with the music, and with a partner — she covers it all in different ways so that something will stick with everyone! Each six week series gives you new information to grow as a dancer, and within the six weeks, you really see your progression! I am addicted and now take classes 2x a week. Private lessons are also worth it. I wouldn’t take classes anywhere else – highly rec!

Danella is an excellent teacher. I’ve been taking her salsa class for 6 months and I’ve learned so much. She creates an environment where I feel comfortable dancing and look forward to going to class. I’m wowed at how great she is in explaining the subtleties of certain techniques all while keeping the class engaged.
Definitely recommend her for people of all skill levels.

I have been taking group and private Salsa Classes with Danella at the Hollywood Dance Center for about 15 weeks and it has been a fantastic experience. I am able to social dance salsa now, feel confident with my knowledge in terms of technique and musicality. I have also had a lot of fun during the classes and met really wonderful people. Danella classes to me have been, and continue being, not only useful to learn to dance salsa but has also provided a warm and happy community. I highly recommend her as a teacher as she is fun, very professional, great at what she does and empowering to her students!

This is the best rentable studio space I’ve visited! The studio is clean, easily accessible, safe, tons of parking for large groups, and has incredible amenities like changeable lighting, a bathroom, and a great sound system. The pricing is amazing per hour compared to many $$$ studios in LA and the booking process is very simple. The owners are very communicative and helpful if you have any questions. A good option if you like this places!
Carlo R. Carranza

This place isn’t just a BALLROOM dance studio, it also has ballet, hip-hop, jazz, dance fitness and they’re all for ADULTS! No children or young teens in classes, so it’s very age appropriate! The salsa and bachata social dance scene is on FIRE here too… make no mistake, this studio has more going on than the name indicates. Highly recommended for beginners and intermediate dancers!!
Courtney Brinkman

One of my favorite studios to take dance classes in LA. Leslie provides a great environment and community for dancers to learn and grow. Whether it’s salsa and bachata with Gina and Arturo, or Tango with Jordi, I’ve found many classes to enjoy.
Nicolas Nino

Beginner Dance salsa was a lot of fun! Gina and the other instructor were great teachers, super welcoming, high energy. For partnering that have you form two circles with leads on one side and follows on the other. Very inclusive of folks who want to lead/follow regardless of gender identity.
Dee Gee

I had an awesome and very instructional beginner’s salsa boot camp today, led by Gina! Will definitely be attending more classes in the future.

A+! 100! 5 stars!
Alexis has been the BEST dance instructor I could have ever asked for!
I have had the pleasure of knowing her for over six years…from private wedding dance lessons with my ex (marriage did not work out but finding my dance instructor soulmate did LOL), to a new love this year for group latin dance.
Dance has filled my spirit with the purest joy, during a very challenging and healing part of my life.
It has been such a pleasure to learn from Alexis, meet new friends, have 2 hours of blissful learning & dance weekly…she even sets up beach dancing and going out to dance venues for fun!
Alexis is truly a beautiful person, inside and out. She teaches with a constant smile on her face, music and her soul and kindness in her heart.
She is so incredibly patient, whether teaching privately or multiple people at once. Her technique is impeccable and she really focuses on proper form, movement and flow. You are learning real movement and proper technique with her, but in a very non-judgmental, patient and compassionate environment…not to mention, it is so fun to make new friends and alternate dance partners in a cozy setting.
I am so happy that I have found my home, and look forward to continuing group dance with Alexis for years to come!
Thank you Alexis for being an incredible dance instructor & soul sister

dancing with Alexis at LA salsa and bachata dance academy has been such an incredible experience. The classes are truly so helpful in building technique. Alexis herself is super encouraging and will meet you where you’re at skill-wise and help train you from there. I love the small class sizes because I genuinely feel like I takeaway something new every class and I don’t get lost in the numbers. She also goes so out of her way and has us all go out social dancing together to help build confidence which is so fun and everyone is so welcoming ❤️ I am so grateful for being part of this community

I can’t recommend this salsa and bachata dance school enough! Alexis, our instructor, is truly exceptional. Her vibrant energy and infectious enthusiasm make every class an absolute joy. Beyond her amazing dancing and teaching skills, Alexis excels at creating a community of like-minded individuals who share a passion for dance. Her positivity and humor light up the studio, making each lesson fun and engaging. What sets Alexis apart is her meticulous attention to technique, which takes students’ skills to an entirely new level. If you’re looking to improve your dancing and be part of a supportive community, this is the place to be!

Alexis is a wonderfully engaging and expert dance teacher. Her teaching style is encouraging and warm, with an emphasis on fundamentals and technique. I have a dance background but not specifically with salsa, and was really interested in getting better at it since there’s such a big and thriving salsa dance community in LA. I love that she challenges me while making every class fun—two hours go by so so quickly.
Beyond the dancing itself, Alexis has also cultivated a special community that’s uplifting, welcoming, and full of positivity/good vibes. You can’t buy that!
For anyone thinking about trying a class, don’t think twice. You will be so happy you did it and honestly, it’s so addictive. We might have to peel you off the dance floor!

Alexis is an awesome instructor! Since attending her class we haven’t looked for other studios and have been dancing with her for a year now 🙂
She is a very talented teacher who cares about technique. If you are a beginner or even if you have taken dance lessons before Alexis can teach you something new! I used to dance ballroom and am very impressed with the way she teaches.
She is also a very sweet and welcoming person who creates a great sense of community! The class will often go to salsa/bachata socials together 🙂
Her class is truly one of a kind and I would highly recommend it!
